Types of Programs
Individual lessons: Our carriage driving lesson program is offered in six-week sessions throughout the year. With each student, a lesson plan and goals are developed that are unique to his/her special needs and are motivating and fun. Goals for individual participants range from achieving a well-balanced sensory experience to learning how to drive independently (or even competitively). Our fee is $20.00 per 45-minute lesson.
Magic Workshops & Outdoor Classroom: These exciting 2½ hour workshops are customized to the needs of the group and combine opportunities to groom and handle horses, complete creative projects, hike/wheel on our nature/sensory trails, receive a carriage driving lesson and enjoy a picnic lunch. During the week, Magic Workshops & Outdoor Classroom are 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Driving Magic will work with the group leader or teacher to develop a lesson plan for each individual attending the workshop – and for school groups, we integrate the lesson plan into student IEP goals. Groups may also contact us to schedule a Sunset Picnic and Workshop for a weekend evening. Our fee is $10 per person which includes workshop activities and supplies (lunch can be brought with you or, for an additional fee, can be catered by local restaurants).
Work skills days: Many adults with disabilities find great motivation and fulfillment in developing and using a work skill. Driving Magic supports this therapeutic need by offering work skills days at which groups perform horse care, tack and harness cleaning, gardening, harvesting, barn maintenance or small building projects. There is no fee for work skills days – we appreciate the help!
Students in our programs range from five years old to 60 plus, and possess a broad range of special needs from mild developmental delays to severe/profound disabilities. We invest in teaching aids and speech assistance devices that support the individual needs and goals of our students. Because our objective is to remain a donation-funded organization, we charge a minimal fee for individual lessons and offer scholarships to qualified candidates.
