Our History
Driving Magic. Inc. began as a group of people with a passion for providing equine-assisted recreational therapy. All had been volunteers, board members and/or participants in therapeutic riding and carriage driving programs for 8-12 years. Because of the unique benefits of carriage driving for the disabled, especially for pre-teens through senior adults, and the limited availability for this type of service in Georgia we turned our passion into a business on July 1, 2004. Driving Magic, Inc. has five instructors certified by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association and an additional NARHA Instructor-In-Training. In 2005, we enhanced our services by offering work skills days for adults with developmental disabilities and an Execs on the Farm program which offers businesses the opportunity for team building events through volunteering with our program. And we began construction of a carriage driving-centric sensory integration trail in early 2007.
Our Location
Driving Magic, Inc. is located at Steadfast Farms, a 680-acre working farm in Hoschton, GA. With a 250′ x 350′ arena and over 8 miles of carriage-accessible trails, DMI participants are able to experience carriage driving at whatever level they are able to attain; from a rich sensory experience to learning competitive driving skills. All lessons and workshops are customized to the specific special needs of each participant and include lesson goals and long-term goals and skills progression.
In 2007, Driving Magic began construction of a sensory integration trail to include signage and activities that support lesson objectives. In addition to driving through wooded paths and along hay, corn and soybean fields, students can experience activities on the trails, including a grocery store, scavenger hunts, games and “bowling.”
